25 Nov 2019: Mapuche march against “green” incinerator in Temuco, Chile
The Mapuche community of Lautaro is threatened by a waste-to-energy incinerator that claims to produce “clean, renewable energy” in a town that already has a biomass burning plant. This march was held on the last day of a public comment period to deliver thousands of comments against the project. All photographs: Orin Langelle/GJEP

Alejandra Parra of RADA, the Environmental Rights Action Network speaks about the project at the march.

Great images, Orin! I am grateful that people are standing up for their World.
Thanks John. The situation here in Santiago is tense as it was in Mapuche territory. The elites in power are trying to maintain the facade that neoliberalism is the future. Chileans have suffered under this economic model since the U.S.’s “Chicago Boys” came to Chile after Pinochet formed his dictatorship.
